A Broad Spectrum

Autism is a neurological developmental disorder in children and adults that ranges from low to high functioning chemical imbalances. Along side autism, ADHD is usually associated, which stands for, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Autism alone has grown significantly over a decade.

“Over the past 20 years, autism diagnosis have increased by about 300%, says Christine Ladd-Acosta, PhD, vice director of the Wendy Klag Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities.” This is an epidemic when the rates go up drastically. I work with children with both autism, ADHD and nonverbal. During my transition from caregiving to education, this was not only foreign to me, but seeing many children and adults affected by this condition was definitely eye-opening. I was also surprised to see many minority children being affected as well. “Compared to 20 years ago, we’re now seeing more children identified with autism who identify as Black, Asian and Pacific Islander than White.”

This made me see to make a connection to a question that I’d been asking myself for years that was plaguing me. It was as if my findings easily connected into the plug of C-Sections that are on the rise over the years as well, but researchers try to emphasize that there isn’t a correlation for causation, yet a large scale study shows the link between the two. I’m no doctor here, or scientist, but it just makes logical sense and common sense is the 6th sense to me.

“Globally, Cesarean Section delivery is estimated to account for 19% of all births, ranging from 7% in Africa to 41% in Latin America and the Caribbean. An average of 4% global increase in ASD has been reported annually over the last few decades.” There is a solid and clear study from two different investigative reports who also agree on the links of minorities globally with the rise of these cases. According to NIH, the discussion was the association of C-Sections by delivery showed a high risk of ASD in children from their research, even after adjusting potentially confounding factors.

There could also be another factor that ties into these discoveries. An article from Northwestern Institute of Policy Research titled, “Why Are Black Women More Likely to Have C-Sections Than White Women?” IPR economist, Molly Schnell found the racial disparities that showed the patterns. “Black women were over 20% more likely to undergo a C-Section – even when they preferred a vaginal birth and had the same medical risk and were treated by the same doctor in the same hospital as White women.” This has happened to my next of kin, not only did they send her to the operating room without informing her actual doctor, they forced her to sign a contract while heavily sedated before the operation. She was not cognizant of what she was signing. “Given the potential risks, we need to carefully consider when they should be used and when they shouldn’t be used, she said.”

Not only are Cesareans being used in a deadly manor, as in the U.S., Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy related causes, the C-Section is one of the top risks. The dark reasoning behind these unnecessary and high risk procedures can be shocking in how corrupt and careless some doctors can be with a human life. Some reasons could be why they perform C-Sections is that they can eliminate long labors or avoiding medical malpractice from failed standard deliveries. A surgical delivery is more profitable than a vaginal delivery.

There are many relative reasons to autism and ADHD based from research and studies that are hidden, unless sought after, as the rabbit hole goes further and darker. But the truth can be a blade, a scale and a light. At times, all of them. It is said that the autistic one is caught between the spiritual and physical realms, as I see this truth being self evident as intelligent, alien and human simultaneously. It is us who have to catch up to them. A baby being brought forth too early and pulled from their own universal cosmic experience that they bring to teach and remind us, while they work to balance this earthly life that we created to try and train them. In my spiritual perception, this isn’t an equal trade off, but rather a “rip” off. Even good intentions can be bad, it’s just how we want to view it.
